Fat babies, Playdates & Shopping | Weekly Update

I have an entire week to update you all on, so bear with me on the photos...there's a lot! We started last week off with one chubby bubby! I can't get over those baby rolls on the legs...seriously, I just want to eat him up!

I mean, as long as your comfy, right dude?!

He is also getting much better at sitting up on his own! We're not there completely, but soon!

I'm taking full advantage of this cooler weather and LOVING the fall baby clothes.

On Thursday, I dropped Christian off at school, and Gavin and I went to the Louisville Kidstuff Sale. If you're a new mom or pregnant, I would highly suggest checking these sales out! The next one is in October and is located in New Albany, Indiana. Click the link for more info!

Gavin fussed and cried the.entire.time at the sale, so I didn't buy as much as I normally would have. However, I fed him his new favorite lunch (seriously, gobbled it down like a hungry turkey) and then he passed out. I halfway thought about going back in after he passed out, but didn't want to chance waking up the beast.

Christian came home from preschool begging to look through our family photos...I'm not sure what that was about, but okay buddy! He showed Gavin every single picture that he was in. There's Christian and there's Christian and there's Christian. ;)

Yay for a sale!

Thursday evening we babysat for our friends...which meant Christian got to play with his best buddy, Weston. I mean, how cute are they?!

Friday, after I dropped Christian off at school, I decided to bite the bullet and go clothes shopping for myself. Gavin was such a little trooper and I had a lot of luck (and coupons!) at Kohl's.

We also have a toe biter on our hands, so if you're ever at our house, be warned! ;)

You know you're an OCD mom when you start your baby early on cleaning!

Friday night we went to our old stomping grounds...Floyd Central High School...to watch my little brother perform in the marching band. Go Green & Gold!

Saturday morning we had a playdate at Huber's Orchard & Winery. Christian was a bit of a whiny 3-year-old, as you can read about in my last blog, but we still managed to have a good time!

We fed the ducks & geese...who were NOT shy in the least.

The weather was gorgeous, so after naps, we went outside to play for a bit. I attempted to do an outward-facing carry with my wrap (found here), but it didn't work out so well. These wraps are meant for forward facing carries. So we switched to the mini stroller & let Christian do the pushing...which he is obsessed with.

Saturday night, we went out for Chick-fil-a, a shopping trip to Target & then back home for kid bedtime & adult wine-down time! We watched the movie Neighbors...which was hilarious.
BTW-my tomato plants have randomly started giving me tomatoes again! Okay, don't mind if I do!

Sunday, Dustin went to the Colts vs Titans game in Indy with one of his buddies, so I had the boys to myself all day. Christian had a low grade fever in the morning, and had to make sure Woody didn't have a fever, too. ;)

We took a trip to Old Navy (yay for coupons!) and bought some adorable Halloween outfits...including this bat hat. Dying!

When we got home, Christian was passed out in the Jeep...which is unusual...and he felt extremely warm. I checked his temperature, and sure enough...his fever was a lot higher.

The rest of the evening consisted of movies, cuddles & medicine. And extra big hugs when daddy got home. Side note: I have a house rule. NO holiday movies until the month of the actual holiday. Otherwise, the movies aren't special anymore. So I've been hoarding all of the Halloween movies until October, but when your fevery kiddo asks for "Jack movie" you can't say no.

I was actually happy to see 102 again...it was 103 and that's when I start getting worried!

Sunday night, Christian slept with me so I could keep an eye on his fever throughout the night. I was shocked to wake up at 5:30 (when Dustin gets up for work) to realize that Gavin hadn't woken up at all throughout the night! He didn't wake up until 6:30!! That's a first. I nursed him, he went back to sleep and didn't wake up again until 8:45...talk about a good night's sleep (well, aside from waking up to check Christian's fever every couple hours...but I didn't have to get out of bed, so I count that as a win)!

Christian still has a fever, and Gavin has had a low one, but both boys are acting okay, so I'm not too mad at this Monday. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Preschool | Bad kid in class?!

So far, Christian is doing great in his 3 year old preschool program. He has made lots of friends, although can never remember their names. He loves his teachers and counts down to the days he attends. I can already tell a huge difference in a few behavioral issues we were having, which makes me so happy. Our biggest was listening & following directions. He has made huge improvements in those areas already. Now with all that being said, I thought I would share our "fun" Friday experience...and our newest hurdle in the toddler life.

First I should start out by saying, we knew something was off with him. He has been acting different for about a week, each day gradually getting worse. It was little things, like not sleeping as well, throwing more fits than usual, not eating things he would normally eat. All of these things are generally signs that something in Christian's toddler world is just not quite right. So on Friday morning, someone decided that 5am would be an acceptable time to wake up (which has been happening more and more frequently...uh, no pal, NOT acceptable). He went back to bed, but not back to sleep, unfortunately. I knew he was going to be a pain today. When he gets up that early, he's never 100%.

So I dropped him off, looked him in the eyes, and told him in my best mom voice to please, be a good boy today. "Okay, mommy. I will." Right. Riiiiiight.

I walked into the school for pick-up and was grateful that I hadn't received a call or text from his teacher. However, that gratefulness quickly changed to "oh crap" as I walked into the classroom. All of the students were sitting quietly on the green carpet listening to their teacher read a story. All of the students except for mine. Of course. Christian was sitting squirming in the blue chair across the room by himself. He ran over to me..."Mommy! Hi Mommy!" "Hi Christian....were you a good boy today?" No response from him. That's when his teacher walked over.

"Well, Christian had to sit in the blue chair a couple times today. When it was time for everyone to sit on the green carpet, Christian was really wild and rolling everywhere, pushing the other kids and even put one kid in a chokehold." UM. WHAT. "He even told me earlier today that he was being mean to the other kids and put himself in the time-out chair." OH MY GOSH. I have the mean kid in class! I have the bully, the kid that can't sit still or follow directions. The kid that's always going to be in trouble. Grrrrrrrreat.

She assured me it really wasn't that big of a deal, he's not usually like this (which kind of surprises me, to be honest...the kid has infinite energy) and all the kids were okay. However, in my house, chokeholds and acting like a wild zoo animal is NOT okay. I told her we would work on keeping our hands to ourselves, and hopefully this won't happen again. So we've spent the weekend learning that we listen and always keep our hands to ourselves. We are nice to other students and never mean. We'll see how much of this sinks into his 3 year old brain.

And to finish with the reason as to why I should have known something was off, Saturday we took a trip to Huber's with friends, and he spent 50% of the time throwing fits...which is NOT like him. For the most part, he is past the horrible 3's, but Saturday, they came back in full. He threw a fit because he wanted to push the stroller, then another because he wanted to order his food, not us. Then another because he wanted to get his own ketchup. Then another because he wanted to stand by daddy not mommy. Then another because he wanted to climb in the jeep without help. Then another because we wouldn't let him grab stuff off the shelves at Target. Are you getting the idea? NON-STOP screaming fits all.day.long. So it was NO surprise at all when he had a fever and runny nose all day long on Sunday, which spiked up to 103 Sunday night and didn't break until early Monday morning. It's so obvious these days when he is getting sick, because he acts like a complete tyrant.

So fingers crossed that Friday's preschool troubles were because he didn't feel well and got up at 5am...because I'm not sure how to handle being the mom of the bad kid in class! I was never hyper or over-energetic. I'm blaming all of his excess energy on his dad. So thanks Dustin!

I'll leave with you some pictures from his teacher and the school's trike-a-thon fundraiser...which Christian had a blast at, of course. Bikes & bounce houses & balloons...oh my!

This week was purple week & Christian's week to bring snacks for the class.

5am wake-up call = one tired mom. Gavin & I dropped Christian off to school in our cozy pj's.

The kids learned 9-1-1 and how to stop, drop & roll!

Hopefully the next preschool update will contain no more time-out stories of chokeholds and Christian in trouble! *Fingers crossed*

Weekend Update!

Hello again! And Happy Fall! Today is the 1st official day of fall, and I couldn't be happier! Although sadly, I've discovered that I have NO fall clothes. I was pregnant last fall, so most of my fall sweaters & jeans are maternity...that's just not going to cut it this year! A shopping trip for myself is needed in my future, and I must say, I DREAD clothes shopping for myself. Trying on jeans is my equivalent of torture. But alas, sweatpants and leggings can't be worn for every occasion, so I'm going to have to suck it up and plan a shopping trip. Does anyone else dread shopping for themselves or is it just me?!

Anywho, our weekend was a pretty good one! On Friday, we picked big brother up from school and immediately headed to his doctor (AGAIN). That makes 7 doctor's visits for this family in the past 2 weeks. What is going on?! It ended up being a false alarm, or a cry for attention, we're not sure. The teacher said he was complaining that it hurt when he went #1, and that he kept saying he needed to go when he didn't. Just in case it was a UTI, we had him checked out. No UTI, just a crazy 3 year old. ;)

My little lunch buddy...loving some carrots.

Friday night, our friends came down from Indy to visit and do our hair...we had Arni's pizza and the
boys took a trip in the Jeep to get ice cream. How cute are these two chomping on their popcorn??

Yay for blonde hair, again! My roots were a little out of control!

Saturday we played outside, grabbed some lunch and took a group nap. Mom & dad needed to gear up for our big night out without the kids!

What a stud in his new shirt!

Saturday night, we left the kiddos with my mom and headed off to River City Winery for our friend Morgan's birthday. I had a couple glasses of wine, which was a first for me in a LONG time! Everyone thought it was pretty funny, and it was nice to let loose a bit! We then headed off to Horseshoe Casino for a little fun and gambling.

I wish I could report that Dustin and I were big winners, but I sadly cannot. You're welcome, state of Indiana.

Sunday morning we were exhausted from staying out way too late and kids that don't realize mom & dad need to sleep in. We pretty much laid around all day, dealt with a whiny & feverish toddler and then took a little Jeep ride to grab some dinner.

Monday was a rough one...Gavin is teething again, or so I assume. He pretty much fussed and whined from sun-up to sun-down. Plus I was exhausted from lack of sleep over the weekend. Going out as you get older needs multiple days of recovery!

This was his reaction when I took the pumpkin away...I'm pretty sure he is too young to start crying when he doesn't get his way...yep, we're in trouble.

The only time he didn't fuss...bathtime!

(The middle picture would be him trying to bite the water he splashes everywhere...)

Tuesday has been much better. I tackled the grocery store by myself with both boys. Gavin was an angel, Christian....not so much. In fact, he has been driving me a little batty since he woke up today, but luckily, there's this glorious thing called nap time where I get to refresh and take a little break from him! This seems to be my motto for the day...

They call me wild thing, is right! I am currently going on two 20 minute naps today! Rebel. And that sums up our weekend...and Monday....and Tuesday. ;)
